"Traceability Matrices are living documents tracking the satisfaction of individual user requirements."
Traceability Matrices plot the projected delivery of every single user requirement, to prevent the risk of anything being overlooked.
Most companies use them prospectively to define precisely where each requirement will be verified as satisfied. But they can also be used retrospectively to identify exactly where the fulfilment of a requirement is actually documented.
The delegation of a company’s responsibilities may determine that a number of Traceability Matrices are generated for one URS, with each one tracing a particular set of requirements, such as those pertaining to CGXP, project documentation, workmanship standards, health, safety and environment, etc.
If more than one Traceability Matrix is generated per URS, there should also be a master overseeing them, which, retrospectively, would verify that all individual matrices had been brought to a satisfactory conclusion.
